About Us
Garth Olwg u3a was officially formed on the 26th February, 2008 and we are very fortunate to be able to hold our monthly meetings and some of our group activities in the Garth Olwg Lifelong Learning Centre in Church Village.

We have monthly talks on a variety of subjects such as ‘Department Stores & London Links’, ‘the History of Cardiff Parks’ and ‘Completing a Charity Trek to Kilimanjaro’, these are held at Garth Olwg Lifelong Learning Centre on the 3rd Wed of the month at 14:00.

We also have groups such as Art and Architecture, a Book Group and Games, these meet monthly at various venues nearby (check the Diary and Groups tabs for information).
If you have any ideas for new groups please let us know.

At present we have around 106 members and our fees are £15 annually pro-rata. Most of our members come from local communities such as Tonteg, Church Village, Llantwit Fardre, Beddau, Efail Isaf and Creigiau but we also have members from Cardiff, Pontypridd, Treharris and Caerphilly.
New members are allowed to attend 2 monthly meetings and any group activities for 2 months prior to joining.

About the U3A
In the UK there are 1057 local u3a’s with over 450,000 members, each u3a is run independently but collectively as part of the International University of Third Age Movement, which originated in France in 1972 and has now spread to many countries of the World.

Am I eligible to join?
u3a membership is not related to a specific age but to a period in one’s life (the third age) after the second age of full-time employment and parental responsibility. Anybody in their third age can join u3a and this includes people who are working part-time. There is no lower age for membership.
